In a significant move for environmental conservation, CTG Brasil, a frontrunner in the country's clean energy generation sector, released a staggering 750,000 fish of native species, including curimbatá, piapara, and pacu, into the reservoirs of the Ilha Solteira and Jupiá Hydroelectric Power Plants on the Paraná River. The release operation took place between February 25 and March 7.
Locations for the fish releases were meticulously chosen. In the Quitéria River near Ilha Solteira, in Vila dos Operadores along the Sucuriú River, and in Itapura within the Jupiá area, these areas became the gateways for the new aquatic life. This initiative is an integral part of CTG Brasil's Ichthyofauna Management and Conservation Program. Conducted under the authorization of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), the program aims to rejuvenate fish populations and safeguard the rich biodiversity of the riverine ecosystem.
The fish used in the repopulation program are produced at CTG Brasil 's Fish Farm in Salto Grande (SP). In addition to fish production, the laboratory conducts research in partnership with universities.?By introducing native fish species into rivers, CTG Brasil contribute to the balance and strengthening of aquatic ecosystems, favoring their biodiversity and ensuring the sustainability of fishing.
This latest release marks the third and final installment of CTG Brasil's 2025 cycle for the Ilha Solteira and Jupiá reservoirs. With this milestone, the company has now cumulatively released 2.1 million fish into the Paraná River basin. Since assuming management of the program in 2016, CTG Brasil's efforts have led to the release of approximately 25 million fish across the Paraná and Paranapanema River basins, underlining its long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.
